Rat Race Arctic Challenge
12 – 16 March 2027
I then move into the new year and on to Scandinavia, well above the Arctic Circle. This is a bucket list event for me, experiencing a completely different environment of that in the North of England.
The challenge takes place over 3 days, with the first involving cycling on fat bikes! We leave our base in Kilpisjarvi and in temperatures down to minus 20 and cycling through this snow the 30km will be pretty brutal. Hopefully the amazing views will await though!
Day 2 involves putting on skis and heading 21km to Lake Saanajarvi and our wildness camp, where a camp fire will await and hopefully some amazing view of the Northern Lights.

​Day 3 is all about the snowshoes as we head for the summit of the mighty Saana, and there will be no hiding as the mountain dominates the skyline as we push on for 21km to our finish at the 3 nations cairn before our reward of a snowmobile ride back to Kilpisjarvi and a celebration of a tough job well done!

Our adventure unfolds in the deep freeze of the Scandinavian north, well above the Arctic circle. The focus of the trip is the 3 nations cairn – the spot where Norway, Sweden and Finland converge. Our route will visit this point and we will use 3 different disciplines on our course – 1 each per stage of travel.
