Pendle Witches Way Hike
April 2027

This is a hike I’ve wanted to tackle for a while now. Pendle Hill dominates the skyline around my part of East Lancashire and the story of the Pendle Witches is something we learnt as children and often headed to Pendle Hill with our parents on Halloween with hundreds of others.

The route follows the path from Sabden to Lancaster the poor souls took on their final journey to Lancaster Castle, where they were tried for witchcraft and sentenced to death by hanging.

Despite a petition of over 12,000 signatures the ladies have never been pardoned of their crimes.

There are lots of websites outlining the story of the Pendle Witches, but Historic UK is quite detailed.

The route starts at Sabden and heads over Pendle Hill through Clitheroe and over the stunning but rather remote Trough of Bowland and on to Lancaster. The aim is to complete the route in 2 days.
